Crispy Frankenstein Treats

Turn ordinary crispy cereal treats into cute green monsters!

Prep time: 1 hour    Total time:  2 hours   Makes: 18 bars

Bar Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup LAND O LAKES® Butter
  • 1 (10-ounce) package (40) large marshmallows
  • 1 teaspoon green food color
  • 6 cups crispy rice cereal
  • 18 wooden craft sticks, if desired

Decorations

  • Black or white decorator icing or gel
  • Assorted candies for decorating: bright-colored candy-coated chocolate pieces, small jelly beans, jumbo   candy confetti, candy corn, pretzel sticks and/or mini marshmallows

Directions

  1. Line 13×9-inch pan with aluminum foil, extending foil over edges.  Butter foil generously; set aside.
  2. Melt butter in large 6-quart saucepan over medium-low heat; add marshmallows. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until melted and smooth (5 to 7 minutes).  Remove from heat; stir in food color.  Stir in cereal until well coated.
  3. Place mixture into prepared pan.  Press down firmly with buttered hands. Cool completely.
  4. Invert onto large cutting board; remove foil.  Cut into 18 bars (3×2-inch rectangles).  Press craft stick into short side of each bar, if desired.
  5. Use icing to create hair and attach candies for face, as desired.  Let set about 1 hour. Store in single layer in container with tight-fitting lid.

TIP: Black decorator icing is available in cans or tubes with decorating tips in the baking aisle of the supermarket.  You can also use black decorator gel which is available in tubes.

TIP:  Craft sticks are available at craft stores.

TIP:  If there are coconut lovers in your family, add 1 cup sweetened flaked coconut to the rice cereal before adding it to the melted marshmallows.

Frosted Jack-O’-Lanterns

Serve ice cream in these special Halloween orange jack‑o’‑lanterns.

Prep time:  40 minutes   Makes: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 4 large oranges
  • 2 to 3 cups of chocolate ice cream
  • 4 green gumdrops

Directions

  1. Cut slice off top of each orange; reserve slices.
  2. Cut around top edge of each orange and membrane, keeping shell intact.
  3. Remove orange sections (save and use for juice).
  4. Cut out eyes, nose, and mouth from each orange shell, starting 1/4 inch below top cut edge.
  5. Fill each orange shell with chocolate ice cream, mounding slightly.
  6. Replace tops of oranges.
  7. Use green gumdrop for stems.
  8. Freeze until serving time (at least 2 hours).

TIP:  Cut off thin slice of peel from bottom of oranges, if necessary.
