Talking Orlando: May 2017

Taking the pulse of Greater Orlando parents and their kids

Each month, Talking Orlando speaks with parents and children throughout Greater Orlando to get their thoughts on a variety of subjects. This time, we asked participants:

“When you think about your children’s future, what are the things you hope for the most?”

“A strong faith, confidence in themselves, financial security, happiness and compassion for others.”
—Jenn Stockdale, mother of Catelyn, Dalton, Lexi, Bane and Marlee (ages 13, 10, 9, 3 and 2)

“I hope that he’s happy with his life, bold enough to do and be whatever he wants, unafraid to be who he is and stands up for what he believes in.”
—Abby Lewis, mother of Jeremy (age 2)

“My biggest hope is that they are healthy as they go through life.”
—Kellie Hall Richards, mother of Kolton and Kamryn (ages 15 and 12)

“With all of the technology now and in the future, I hope they will still grow up to understand the value in having face-to-face conversations, writing hand-written notes and forms of communication that don’t require technology in building personal and professional relationships.”
—Karen Kovalsky Monteleone, mother of Luke and Michael (ages 3 and 1)

“I hope for their happiness. And, more so than them being book smart— [although] of course I want my kids to go far in school— what really matters to me is that they have a kind heart and that they treat others with respect, and love one another.”
—Tayman Menke, mother of Maggie and Bradford (ages 5 and 3)

“I just hope that their future is full of health and happiness—and me being there forever.”
—Mary Feighery, mother of Dash and Cal (ages 3 and 9 months)

“Happiness and peace. That they’re kind. That they make the world a better place. And that they fight for justice and the underdog.”
—Mary Russell, mother of Olivia, Nora and Dean (ages 5, 3 and 1)

“I hope … that they’re good friends [to others], that they love everyone they come to meet, and treat people with kindness and respect.”
—Amanda Roberts, mother of Luke and Emily (ages 4 and 2)
