Egg-cellent Easter Bon Bons
A sweet confection for your little chicks to shape and decorate
Plastic eggs, marshmallow Peeps, and jellybeans are nice, but if it’s sweet perfection that you crave, then these tasty bon bons will have your bunnykins drooling. A truffle-like treat, these Easter eggs are eggzactly what you need for your holiday festivities! You might even want to host an eggstrordinary eggschange with your friends! Everyone will be eggstatic and eggsited!! Dozen this just crack you up?
What you will need:
- A boxed cake mix and ingredients to make the cake (any flavor will do, but I used strawberry)
- A container of ready-made frosting (I used vanilla)
- Dipping chocolate or almond bark (chocolate and/or vanilla flavored)
- Frostings of different colors, or candy kote wafers
- Decorator squeeze bottles or zip lock bags
Mix and bake the cake as directed on box. Let cool completely. Crumble cake and mix thoroughly with the icing. Form mixture into egg shapes. Place on wax paper on a cookie sheet and put in freezer for at least 30 minutes and up to 2 hours. Melt chocolate or bark according to package instructions. Hold egg fillings on slotted spoon or fork and dip into melted chocolate or bark. Set on wire rack over wax paper and let harden. Place melted colored candy wafers or prepared frostings in zip lock bags and snip off a tiny corner to use for decorating your eggs, or you can use squeeze bottles to make your designs. Use your wildest imagination and have fun!
Notes: Yellow cake and chocolate frosting is another good combination for filling.
Bite-sized eggs are good for older kids to decorate, while larger eggs might be easier for the little children to work with.
Beware the sweet factor! Too many eggs and your little bunnies may be hopping until the 4th of July!
