Local wedding planners dish on today’s hottest trends.

If you’re getting married soon, you probably want to know about the hottest current trends in nuptials. Few people can provide a better bird’s-eye view of today’s popular choices than professional wedding planners, and the Greater Orlando area has many such service providers from which to choose.

“The joy of working weddings is there is always something new,” says Tracy Marini, owner of Eventfully Yours in Orlando. She also notes that traditional wedding cakes are becoming something of a rarity at hip modern ceremonies. “Most want to wow guests with a late-night sweet or dessert station.”

Speaking of “wow,” Christy Subler, owner of Anna Christine Events in Orlando, has noticed an uptick in the style of clothes being chosen for these special occasions. “People are starting to go away from the burlap-and-rustic looks that have been dominating over the past few years,” she says, “and are starting to go a little more high-end with more sparkle and classic looks.”

Also trending, according to Marini, are multi-use dresses. “I’ve noticed more brides choosing a 2-in-1 dress that starts off a little more traditional and then converts to fun and comfortable evening attire,” she says. On the other hand, Andrea Chinea- Grier, co-owner with husband Mickey Grier of Weddings Unique in Orlando, says her clients are going after a less-is-more approach with simplistic, modern looks.

Color preferences are shifting, too. “The biggest trend I’m seeing right now is everything green,” says Chinea-Grier. “From garlands to topiaries, to touches of floral.” On the metal front, many of Subler’s clients are opting for rose-gold over traditional gold. “Couples are really excited to incorporate that with neutral colors including ivory, white and blush-pink,” she says.

Last but not least, Subler is seeing two extremes in the types of weddings being planned. “[They’re] going toward either really big events that are super-inclusive of everybody,” she says, “or keeping it really small to make their budgets go further.” At the end of the day, though, her clients know what’s truly important. Per Subler, “People really want to focus on friends and family.”
