Inspired Closets Orlando elevates the experience of creating custom closets with a game-changing technology that permits a walk-through of each newly designed space before it has been built.

Most Americans live a harried life, with numerous obligations that siphon their time and energy. In other words, a chaotic personal life is as American as apple pie. Ask Gary Mitchem about this phenomenon and he will say that the path to a more organized and less stressful life begins at home.
“Home organization is very important to a lot of people,” says Mitchem, the owner of Inspired Closets Orlando. “They want to get up and start their day with a good feeling. Having an organized closet helps them start the day with a clear idea of exactly where the day is going to take them. That said, the need for home organization goes far beyond closets.”
In addition to creating custom closets, Inspired Closets Orlando designs bespoke organization systems for garages, pantries, laundry rooms and home offices, among other parts of the home. Mitchem, a lifelong entrepreneur, felt drawn to the closet business in 2001. He chose to partner with Inspired Closets because of its decades of expertise, its reputation as an industry pioneer, and its ability to deliver the kind of high-end product desired by so many homeowners in the Orlando area.
To Mitchem, Inspired Cabinets’ many distinctions begin with the materials that go into its designs. Many cabinet companies tend to use less expensive materials, such as lightweight particleboard topped with a thin layer of melamine resin. Inspired Cabinets uses engineered wood, which tends to be more durable and less likely to warp or split over time; Mitchem considers this trait invaluable considering Central Florida’s hot and humid climate.
Inspired Closets offers a lifetime product guarantee and an installation guarantee, thereby ensuring the each of its creations not only lasts but also is installed to the homeowner’s satisfaction. In addition, the company offers price-match assurance, meaning it will match or even do better on price than competitors that use comparable materials, accessories, hardware, and construction.
“We also have the latest tools at our disposal,” Mitchem adds. “After we take the measurements and design the cabinets, everything is cut at Inspired Closets’ plant in Michigan. The shop is almost entirely computerized, which simplifies the process and makes it highly accurate from beginning to end. Also, if someone wants something special—an island [in their closet], for example—but they aren’t sure if there’s room, we can help them see it to scale so they can envision it better.”
This is where Inspired Closets’ appetite for innovation comes into play. Although the company utilizes 3D modeling technology that gives each homeowner a 360-degree view of their designed space, it recently adopted a new innovation that takes the client’s visualization experience to the next level. It’s called Envision, an augmented-reality tool that enables a homeowner to essentially walk through their newly designed closet before it has been built.
“Most closet companies still pencil draw the closets they’re designing, and some offer a 3D version,” he adds. “We’ve taken it to the next step. After we’ve come out to your home and taken our measurements to make sure we understand exactly what you’re looking for, we invite you back to our showroom. That’s where you put on the Envision goggles and walk through the space as we have designed it—every shelf, every drawer, everything at the height you want it, built to size.
“Envision makes it easier for people to decide how to move forward with the closet we’ve designed for them,” he continues. “If you want to make any changes or adjustments, you can do that almost in real time. We see it as the next step forward so we can help customers make more informed decisions about their homes. It has been a game changer.”
Besides the Envision room, the Inspired Closets Orlando showroom includes interactive vignettes of the company’s different areas of expertise—walk-in closets, reach-in closets, pantry displays, etc. As a result, homeowners can imagine what’s possible in terms of colors, accessories and much more.
“People have a lot of options when it comes to closet companies,” he says. “I like the idea of creating personalized spaces for people who want more, and who appreciate quality and craftsmanship. If you think about it in terms of a car dealership, I want to offer the equivalent of a Mercedes or a Cadillac, and that’s what people get when they come to us. From the quality of the product to the tools we use to help people make decisions, we offer a higher-end experience.”
