Super Sandwiches

Delightful, delectable and downright delicious, 25 of the area’s most satisfying selections

When it comes to stellar sandwiches, Orlando has no shortage of impressive options to choose from, which is why every few years we embark on a journey to discover the very best the region has to offer. From familiar favorites that have stood the test of time to creative concoctions that push the boundaries, these 25 standouts are as memorable as they are mouthwatering.

MEDUSA at Bad As’s Sandwiches
Despite the name, it would be hard to look away from this beauty. House-roasted turkey is piled high into a long roll with bacon, slices of Gouda, pickled onion, lettuce, tomatoes and a flavorful Kalamata olive cream.

THE BIG FLOYD at Pig Floyd’s
Not for the faint of heart, this mammoth offering is a blend of smoked brisket, pulled pork and sausage topped with a citrus-peanut slaw and french fries, and slid into a slightly toasted bun.

CASHEW CHICKEN SANDWICH at The Goblin Market
A cashew crust gives this chicken breast a nutty, crunchy texture before it’s rested in a brioche bun and paired wonderfully with a creamy brie mornay sauce and a sweet, acidic cranberry-apple relish.

BBQ MELT at Four Rivers Smokehouse
While the pulled pork and pulled chicken are certainly solid options here, we strongly recommend the delightful burnt ends covered with provolone and cheddar cheese, silky sweet caramelized onions and served on sourdough bread.

STACKED EGGPLANT at Gnarly Barley
We’re suckers for a good eggplant sandwich and this one fires on all cylinders. Toasted sourdough is the foundation for fried eggplant outfitted with a purple dijonaise slaw, roasted red pepper cashew sauce, shaved Parmesan, dill pickle and arugula.

CHICKEN AVOCADO at Houndstooth Kitchen & Eatery
Cuban bread is pressed, creating a slightly crispy exterior that gives way to thinly sliced grilled chicken, creamy avocado, asiago cheese and a roasted tomato vinaigrette.

BUFFALO CHICKEN at Toasted
This grown-up grilled cheese features a winning combo of Muenster and homemade buffalo cheese with buffalo-sauced pulled chicken and your choice of ranch or a blue cheese dressing made in-house.

CHICKEN SALAD at Pammie’s Sammies
Forget about the chicken salad your mom used to make: This amplified version showcases all-white chicken that’s been shredded and tossed with a house-made tarragon dressing and pecans, and is served with lettuce and tomato on the bread of your choice.

FULL MONTE CRISTO at 903 Mills Market
The perfect blend of sweet and savory, this playfully named handheld consists of hot ham and turkey along with Swiss, American and a cranberry aioli stuffed between slices of French toast that’s been dusted with powdered sugar.

STEAK SMASH at Hinckley’s Meats
Tender roast beef is shaved and nestled into a pressed Cuban roll with provolone, caramelized onions, both Fresno and banana peppers, and a pepperoncini aioli for good measure.

TURKEY AND PESTO at Sideward Brewing
One of our favorite breweries also makes one of our favorite sandwiches by way of this well-constructed turkey, roasted red pepper, balsamic-dressed arugula, pesto and mozzarella on grilled sourdough.

PAN CON LECHON at Black Bean Deli
This Cuban-inspired café is a hit with locals and it’s because of simple-yet-standout offerings like this slow-roasted pork sandwich with garlic-mojo and cilantro aioli.

PIMENTO CHEESE CROISSANT at The Glass Knife
The delicate, toasted homemade butter croissant is the perfect vessel for house-made pimento cheese, avocado, a salty-sweet smoked bacon jam, peppery arugula and sliced tomatoes.

MEATLOAF SANDWICH at Se7en Bites
This marvelous meatloaf—complete with “Grammie’s secret seasonings”—is the ultimate comfort food, especially when glazed, topped with mashed potatoes and placed between slices of toasted bread.

RACHEL at TooJay’s Deli
An understated sandwich that has stood the test of time, few do it better than TooJay’s where a generous portion of hot pastrami and coleslaw partner with Swiss cheese and Russian dressing on a grilled artisan rye bread.

MARINA MARINO at Teak Neighborhood Grill
Grilled mahi mahi is topped with coleslaw, bibb lettuce, tomato and sliced pickles, and served on a brioche bun with a firecracker sauce that complements all the flavors while providing a bit of a kick.

CHICKEN PESTO PANINI at Brick & Butter
There’s a lot to love about this chicken breast sandwich with pesto, creamy stracciatella, grilled cherry tomatoes, arugula and a balsamic reduction served on an extremely airy and aromatic rosemary focaccia.

THE STASIO at Stasio’s Italian Deli
This eponymous Italian hoagie is packed with prosciutto, hot capocollo, mild soppressata, fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers, red onion and finished with a white balsamic vinaigrette.

PORTOBELLO ITALIANO at Cavo’s Bar & Kitchen
A meaty, marinated Portobello mushroom cap appears alongside sautéed spinach, roasted red peppers and provolone, then topped with Pecorino Romano and served on a fresh-baked Kaiser roll.

PARMA at Turci Panino
Focaccia is coated in gorgonzola cream, which beautifully balances the salty ribbons of prosciutto, while chopped walnuts provide some textural balance and the tantalizing truffle honey adds a rich sweetness.

SOUTHERN REUBEN at Perrotti’s NY Deli
A New York-style deli serving up a southern spin on a classic sandwich? Sure, we’ll bite (no pun intended). Hot mesquite turkey and Muenster are stacked between slices of toasted white bread with sauerkraut and barbecue sauce, and the result is oh-so satisfying.

KGB at Cheba Hut
If you haven’t been to Cheba Hut in a while, it’s high time you get acquainted with this roast beef and horseradish sandwich that also includes green bell pepper, mushrooms, Swiss cheese, LTO, pickle, the restaurant’s signature Parmesan “shake,” and oil and vinaigrette dressing.

DEVILED EGG SMASH at The Classic
Slices of salami and cheese are topped with lettuce, tomato, onion and smashed hard-boiled eggs and rested between two slices of toasted country white bread.

CHUCK NORRIS at Grilled Cheezus
We’re not pulling any punches when we say this is one memorable bite. Think white cheddar, white American and blue cheese crumbles all comingling with sliced ribeye, caramelized onions and creamy horseradish.

PULLED CHICKEN at The Polite Pig
Grab yourself a pint of one the signature crafts on tap and dig into this juicy beer-brined chicken that works wonders alongside spicy pickles, onion jam and an Alabama barbecue sauce.
